This route takes you from the foothills of Southern Alberta’s big-sky prairie country, stopping at small towns, historic sites, and unique local attractions that are easy to explore. It’s a mix of natural landmarks, hands-on museums, wildlife experiences, and fun roadside stops you won’t find anywhere else.

Tour Route

Starting near Okotoks, the drive heads south through High River and Nanton, then continues toward Fort Macleod and Lethbridge. From there, the loop turns north through Coaldale to Vulcan.


Major Landmarks

  • Okotoks Erratic. A massive glacial boulder dropped far from its original home
  • High River. Small-town stop with Heartland and the Last of Us filming, a favourite for families and horse lovers
  • Nanton Bomber Command Museum. A chance to get close to real WWII aircraft
  • Fort Macleod. One of Alberta’s oldest communities with ties to the North West Mounted Police
  • Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. A UNESCO World Heritage site with a deep Indigenous history

Best Time to Visit
